Isaiah 43:18-19: Get out of the trash!

“Forget the former things;
    do not dwell on the past.
 See, I am doing a new thing!
    Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
    and streams in the wasteland.

Isaiah 43:18-19

There are many times in our lives we find ourselves chugging along when something from our past smacks us in the face. This could be old habits, relationships, or just simply stinking thinking. Whatever it may be, it deters us from the ultimate plan or what God has in store for us. After reading this passage again this week, it had a whole new meaning for me and I hope by sharing with you it does for you as well.

As I was struggling this week with smoking cigarettes I needed this scripture to help me abort the destructive mission I was about to partake in. I remember describing the action to a friend as “sifting through the trash God has already cleaned up.” You see God delivered me from smoking back in August and for unknown reason I had a craving and a urge. I regretfully gave in for 3 weeks. I prayed by myself, I prayed with friends, and I tried to quit again. Somehow this stronghold was back and I could not shake it.That was until one day I was so sick. I did not know why but I felt completely horrible. I prayed again but this time earnestly because I wanted God to know I could not go through this again.

He spoke to me and reminded me of this scripture. I immediately felt calmer and slept the rest of the day. I have not smoked since. I know God is trying to do something new in my life and I must get out of His way to allow it to happen. I ask if there are things or people in your life that you know are stopping you from going to the next level or God already removed them from your life…..don’t go back….Can’t you see He is doing something new for you?

  1. 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

    • You are so right! Thanks for the encouragement. It’s easy to remember old behaviors and hard to apply new ones, however with determination and focus it is possible!

  2. Amen…. I allowed a traumatic event in life to keep me from seeking the Lord. It has been a struggle to get even halfway where I was..but I am do thankful that His love is greater. He keeps me anyway. Thank you for this post
